Data through a carve-out in a multinational manufacturer

Situation. A global industrial group, an active acquirer and divester, running data across dozens of legal entities with no common definitions and no single reporting spine.

What was actually hard. Not the pipelines. Getting country GMs with divergent P&L incentives to agree on a single definition of a customer and a product, while a transaction clock ran.

What I did. Set the group data and AI strategy with the board and its investor. Built and led a distributed team across onshore and offshore delivery. Sequenced harmonisation entity by entity against deal milestones rather than against a technical ideal. Prioritised AI and automation use cases with business owners, and killed the ones with no data foundation underneath.

First data platform at an industrial scale-up

Situation. A fast-growing manufacturer with production data trapped in machines and finance data trapped in spreadsheets. No data function existed.

What was actually hard. Building credibility for a data team before it had shipped anything, in an organisation that had survived fine without one.

What I did. Hired and led a team of six across engineering, analysis and science. Designed and delivered the full stack from scratch — ingestion including IoT streaming, warehouse, transformation, BI and analytics. Set governance early, while it was still cheap.

Advisory across the buyer’s and the seller’s side

Situation. Enterprise clients across mining, manufacturing, banking, energy and healthcare, each convinced their data problem was unique.

What was actually hard. Most of them were buying a tool to solve an ownership problem.

What I did. Ran pre-sales and delivery for key accounts, and helped clients shape and roll out data strategies on modern cloud stacks — separating the places where the architecture decision was genuinely a decision from the places where it was a distraction.
